The Justice Research and Statistics Association is a national nonprofit organization of state Statistical Analysis Center (SAC) directors, researchers, and practitioners throughout government, academia, and criminal justice organizations dedicated to policy-oriented research and analysis. Created in 1974, JRSA promotes the exchange of information among the SACs, and acts as a liaison between the state agencies and the Justice Department.
JRSA conducts policy-relevant research on justice issues of importance to the states, disseminates information to the justice community through its websites, and convenes conferences and seminars to share information about new research, programs, and technologies. JRSA also provides training and technical assistance to the states on a wide range of topics including data reporting, evaluation and research methods, evidence-based practices, and crime and prison population forecasting.
JRSA convenes conferences and seminars so criminal justice professionals can share information and hear about new research, programs, and technologies. We provide training and technical assistance on a wide range of topics including automated systems planning and management, crime analysis, evaluation and research methods, crime and prison population forecasting, and improving presentations through computer graphics.
JRSA is governed by its bylaws and a seven-member Executive Committee, including five officials elected from among the State Statistical Analysis Center directors (a President, Vice President, Secretary/Treasurer, and two delegates), one appointed (non-voting) delegate, and the Past President. All Executive Committee members, except for the appointed delegate and immediate past President, must be state or territorial Statistical Analysis Center Directors. The Strategic Plan guides the work of the organization and the Executive Committee.
JRSA maintains an office in Washington, DC to carry out the activities of the association. The JRSA Executive Director, who serves at the pleasure of the Executive Committee, oversees the performance of all staff members.
